The Sepsis Dilemma: The Physician Advisor Perspective

The diagnosis of sepsis is highly complex and presents unique challenges for health systems. In this free town hall, the American College of Physician Advisors' Clinical Documentation Integrity Committee shared perspectives on the critical role of physician advisors in supporting clinicians, CDI and coding partners, and their health systems regarding sepsis. The committee unpacked some of the many layers of how physician advisors can help from creating system clinical definitions, educating clinicians and CDI staff, and mitigating denials. Also shared, were perspectives on emerging scientific literature published since the 2016 SEPSIS-3 criteria that may influence criteria in the future as well as quality measures and policy associated with sepsis reporting. Click below to watch the recorded session and stay tuned for information about the next Town Hall!
